Hey Kev (if I may),
All of your posts and responses - not just to mine - have been very complete, well thought out and to the point. I appreciate the time you have taken to respond.

I spoke to the engine shop today. It's an interesting set-up. There are two companies working hand-in-hand. One does only the engine rebuilds and the other does the competition work and the muscle work of pulling and re-installing. A rebuild will run in the neighborhood of $3000. I can only assume the removal and re-install will be in the same area - maybe a bit less - $2000 to $3000. I'm estimating high on this part.

If I can get a road-ready motor from the competition side instead of the rebuild for near the same price....Again, just thinking out loud

I've decided to back the Ranger into the barn and go about pulling the engine myself over the next few months, a little at a time. I need a project that will offer a challenge and save some cash at the same time. Nover done a complete engine pull before so it should be fun and a PIA, but it's okay, I'm ready for it.

I noticed after I backed her into position and checking the fan clutch that there was coolant leaking from around the water pump. That's also what helped me with my decision

I'll be posting in other areas for awhile as I come up with questions and need help...starting today...

Thanks for all yor advice so far. Looking forward to more.
