Which brand of fuel pump
Well, I'm having fuel issues again, and there's not a lot of miles on the pump that I just replaced awhile back. This vehicle only gets driven a few times a month, sometimes not even that.
Unfortunately I didn't think I'd be doing this so soon, or I would've kept the information on which pump I did install. But that didn't happen, so now I've just got to start over. The good news is that there seems to be more choices, and better prices.
So here's my question. Is there a brand of fuel pump out there that's known to be good for a few years? I'm pretty sure I spent several hundred bucks on the last one, and it turned out to be crap. So I'm thinking about a cheap one, unless someone can point me in the right direction on a long term fix. The job itself is pretty easy, and very straightforward, as well as being something I can do without help. Who knows I might get lucky with a cheap one lol. Besides money is a bit tight anyway, so I'm thinking cheap is good. Any thoughts from the experts? Anyone have an experience that would help? Any ideas on which cheap brand might work best?

Re: Which brand of fuel pump
^^^^ Cost must be of extreme concern as it's mentioned seven times and the word "cheap" is used four times. With $ as the #1 priority on the list, just hop online and look for the absolute cheapest, inexpensive and lowest cost fuel pump that can be found, and install.

Re: Which brand of fuel pump
Thanks cb9! I didn't realize that I'd placed that much emphasis lol, but looking at my post you are correct. I wouldn't say it's the top priority, but if I'm back replacing it again in another year, I just don't see the point. If I absolutely knew that all Ranger fuel pump issues were solved once and for all. And all I had to do was buy a Motorcraft pump, I'd be all over it. But this truck has had more pumps in it than all the vehicles I've ever owned combined. And I'm not the original owner!
So unless I hear of a definitive ruling, then yeah, I can see me going cheap. I just thought I'd check in with the experts, and see if anyone knew of a brand that'd work out on a budget.

Re: Which brand of fuel pump
Frankly, I've heard crap about them all. I would go a step above just replacing it and try to make sure there are no other factors that are prematurely killing your pumps. If not, then just install a new one and hope for the best.

Re: Which brand of fuel pump
From the sound of other peoples experiences, FP brands other than MC are hit and miss/unreliable/have short lives. The other thing is, pump life looks to be adversely impacted by running around low on gas, something most people don't talk about when they need to replace the pump. Myself, if the day ever comes, it'll be a MC. It's not the lifetime warranty that parts have that makes the sale, it's the inconvenience of being stranded and then having to replace these *free* warranty replacements on a semi regular basis that is irritating.

Re: Which brand of fuel pump
I haven't heard anything good about any of em. But I'm sure that the expensive one is made in China, and likely is made right in the same sweat shop as one of the cheaper ones. Made to the same specs, with the same material, same little hands...
Question is...which one
