Default Transmission shifting hard

I have been having problems with my 1995 v6 4.0 ranger changing gears really hard it has decreased my acceleration big time and I drive on the interstate and hwy daily and when im going up a hill it just jumps constantly like it can't stay in gear or change to the next one. I just changed out my transmission filter but it didn't help a lot.

Is your overdrive light flashing at all? Also you mentioned you tried changing the trans filter, did you double check the fluid level with the engine running and trans oil hot?

It has plenty of trans fluid and just put motor oil in it and my OD light is not on it has almost 250thousand miles on it. I been told it could be the trans going out and getting it rebuilt would be cheaper if not better right?

----------

I also forgot to mention it is a 4x4 2 door and the engine is new just put in 4 years ago it also has an oil leak on the rear main seal I believe and it burned out the new starter I put on it last year just had to buy a new one a few weeks ago

Motor oil, as in like 5w30? If thats the case look in your owners manual for recommended transmission oil type and report back to us boss.
