Default stumped on starting issue.

history of problem:

I have a 2008 4.0 ranger fx4. Starting issue started about last summer but wasn't a problem rarely did it. Around September it was becoming more often and more of an issue. in November truck completely stopped running. SO this is what it was doing. It would crank twice and the starter would spin and run but not engage the fly wheel. At first I thought it was the fuel pump so I would turn key a few times and boom start up. they eventually stopped working and truck wouldn't start. so the process of fixing. Replaced fuel pump, nothing so went to starter, replaced it and now I'm not getting anything when trying to start it. I get dash lights and radio and all the jazz but it dosent turn over. not even a click. has new spark plugs, oil changed, fuel pump, starter. No on I know can figure it out and I have no idea. ive tried moving the ground on the starter, ive looked at just about everything that I can. Please help me!

So it's not even turning over now? Or is it turning over and just not starting?

I wouldn't have gone to the fuel pump without a fuel pressure test. The first issue you described, 'It would crank twice and the starter would spin and run but not engage the fly wheel.' is a starter bendix failure. A brand new starter and now it won't click even? What is the status of your battery? Are you sure the starter is good? You can test it yourself. Take it out, hook your jumper cable up, positive to the terminal, and when you touch the case where it bolts on with the ground, it should spin, AND kick the gear out as if to engage the flywheel. Be warned it will twist, so hold it.

I think you will be better served by following some diagnostics before tossing parts at it.

try running a jumper cable from 'ground ' on battery to ground on engine -this checks out the ground cable

If the first position at the key has power to the dash lights and everything and the second position(starting position) is dead silence take a look at the ignition switch. Might be time for a new one.
