Default 3.0L vs 4.0L

hello,I posted a recent question about 3.0L vs 4.0L but it was too vague so I will be more specific.I currently have a 2003 xlt 3.0 automatic and am diligently looking for a 4x4.Most I have seen have the 4.0L in them and I am wondering what is the gas mileage difference between the 2 and is there any years to stay away from this engine, thanks!!!
