Default Intake manifold missing hose

2001 Ford Ranger XLT 4.0 L SOHC 4wd 6 cylinder
1FTZR15E01TA34690

Home "mechanic" just finishing valve cover gasket replacement experiencing a user error during reassembly.

Intake manifold has two ports on the driver's side of the intake manifold - each with an inner diameter about 1/4 inch. One is about 5 inches back from the throttle body (towards the firewall), the other is about 15 inches back from the throttle body (towards the firewall). What connects with these two ports? One has a hose connected to it. The other is missing the hose causing surging when idling. Idling smooths out when I block the port with my finger.

Is this for a breather tube? What should it connect to?

The one at the rear is for the brake booster. The one in the middle on the driver side is the main vacuum port that several things branch off of.

Thank you for your reply. Brake booster is connected at very back of intake on top by firewall. Main vacuum is connected on side. Still have one unaccounted for opening on side of intake.

The only other vacuum port on the drivers side is right behind the throttle body and egr boss. It connects to an emissions part under the antilock brake control right behind the battery. Could you post a picture if that's not it please ?

PCV valve is connected to the rear of the driver's side valve cover. Brake booster is connected at the top of the intake manifold at the back (by firewall).

From previous posts, the two side ports are for main vacuum, and emissions. Will double check these two and post again if still baffled.

THANK YOU.

Attempting to post pictures with this. 1=mystery port. 2 is connected to the emissions part behind the battery, below the antilock brake unit. 3 is connected to brake booster.

The hose on 2 goes on port 1. Port 2 should have a short 90 degree hose that connects several 1/8" plastic lines.
