Hoping that's not the case, but we'll see.

I doubt it cracked a head/blew a head gasket, given the period of time the temp was out of the normal range. It also isn't showing any symptoms (granted I wasn't really looking). But, I'll run a pressure test on it and see where that leads. I'm about due for an oil change anyway, so that'll be another chance for a head issue to show itself.
If things start pointing towards a head issue, then we'll cross that bridge when we get to it. Haha

Overflow bucket should be sealed. Allows rad to boil over into it when hot. Then as engine cools creates a vacuum and sucks fluid back into system. Replace tank then fill and monitor system.

2002 4.0 doesn't have a closed system degas bottle. Just a regular coolant reservoir.

A crack at the top of the reservoir wouldn't do anything. Hell the cap is just a flap, not air tight at all.

The reason the coolant flows back into the system is because the hose has vacuum.

He never mentioned a crack at the top? He said it never held any coolant ? I suspected a crack on bottom? So in other words no bottle , no fluid, nothing to suck from when engine cools ? He kept blowing coolant out ? Doesn't have to be a degas sealed system ? The entire time who knows how long, the rad vented out? And sucked air in ? If there was fluid it would have sucked it back in and kept it full. Unless he does have a leak somewhere else in the system ?

Did a little investigating today.
Started off checking the oil: looked fine. not milky at all.
Then I ran a pressure test. Pressurized the system to 16/17 psi. It consistently lost pressure. Took about a minute to loose 3psi. But, I can't see where it could be leaking. Also, when I pulled the pump off the radiator, I noticed that the fluid level had barely changed (if at all). This was after pressurizing and depressurizing a few dozen times.

So I'm not really sure what to make of this... Lol. Any advice?

Get a spray bottle with soapy water and spray all the hoses, radiator, water pump, heater core connections, etc.

If you see bubbles there is your leak.

Check the pressure tester first for leaks. I've rented alot, and a ton have bad seals.

Well shit; didn't even think about breakin out a spray bottle. Haha.

I'll run the test again with the soapy water and see if that reveals anything. Ittle have to wait till next weekend though (I returned the pressure tester, plus I'm 3hrs away from the truck).
