Default engine swap 2003 ranger 4.0

I bought a long block 4.0 replacement motor and have a question on the amount of time it takes to complete the job.

Pull the motor, swap everything out, and reinstall motor, make sure everything is operating correctly. Does anyone have an official time. I heard 12-14 hrs and someone else guess 8hrs.

I had a mechanic shop quote 28 hrs, so im curious as to how long it should take or an official time they allow.

Depends on equipment and how familiar you are with the process. I would rent a cherry picker if possible and do it myself. If I had to do it, id give myself a weekend just to be safe.

Also, do you know if the long block has the updated timing chain guides? Now is the time to change them to the new style if not.

If you dont have a garage or a buddy's garage, then I really wouldnt think a shop would need more than 8-12 hours to do the job. I could be wrong tho...

If you live in a state where they salt the roads or rust is a problem, give yourself even more time. Something WILL break or strip out from the old engine. Ask me how I know..
