I recently picked up a 98 Mazda B4000 SE 4.0 4X4 to replace my tired 94 Ranger with custom 5 cylinders.
After a few days after I bought it the check engine light came on and i drove over to Auto-zone and got it read.
One code only.
P1309 - Misfire detection monitor disabled.
I reset the code just to see if it came back. It did, but it took a few days.
After I knew what the code was I researched. Most threads on the 3.0. I know its either the PCM, wiring to the CMP, The top part of the CMP or the dummy shaft in the block. and usually if the dummy shaft in the block goes it makes a squiring noise. In my case It does not. Also the truck runs just fine just like many other posts.
The new motor craft assembly is around $140 plus its has to timed with the engine. I have heard the Dorman brand ones have been giving people trouble. Plus its all behind the intake - YAY
What I am looking for help on is how to test the sensor and the wiring to the sensor. I don't have a PCM breakout box haha. I just do not have the money to throw parts at it. Also is there any other things that would cause this code?
Truck has 116k miles on it. Just detailed.
