Default Hard time starting but runs fine after starting

I have an 03 Ranger 4.0L 4x4 that has some problems starting the first time you turn the key. I have found that I usually have to turn off the HVAC system and lightly tap the gas a bit occasionally to get the truck to start.

Any thoughts on how to improve this? I am thinking about replacing plugs and wires soon to see if that helps as I don't know how old they are.

*1 month ago I did clean the MAS to see if that would help.

Is it turning over slow? Like a battery on its way out would do.

Ok then does it take a little bit of time to start? We need a description of what it's doing. A hard start could be a battery, starter any number of things.

Have you changed the fuel filter lately?

Try turn the key on for 10 seconds then off for 15 seconds. Do this 3 times then start it.

Check valve in fuel pump draining back into tank when truck is shut off. Replace fuel pump assembly.
