If There's No CEL, Truck Won't Start

So basically last time I posted I was having issues with the fuel system (which turned out to be the inertia switch, which has been dealt with). This time, my truck only starts when the CEL is on. Most times it comes on when I have the key on run, but when it doesn't the truck won't start, just crank, with neither fuel or spark. The only code that The New Guy is spiting is something-something EGR? I have no idea what that means, never messed with it. It's starting to get irritating, I've been late to work twice these past few weeks. Basically asking if the EGR can cause this, or if I need to focus my attention elsewhere. Several people have had a similar problem and fixed it by replacing the Crankshaft Position Sensor. Will that throw a code if it malfunctions?

If it's any help, on the authorized modifications sticker under the hood, it states that the PCM was reprogrammed, part # 15-F7PFACA back in 1999.

when the MIL doesn't come on with the bulb check when the truck is keyed on it means the PCM isnt turning on. Either the PCM itself is bad and is intermittently not working, or the power supply relay/ignition switch is not always making full contact, or a wiring connection somewhere on that circuit is loose/corroded.

Update- spent an hour scrubbing every electrical connector I could find (just because they need cleaned), guess I cleaned whatever the problem was, cause I drove to work tonight without a CEL. Freakin electrical systems.....

This. EGR won't cause problems starting. The computer is getting some power because it's allowing the truck to turn over. Do you hear the fuel pump whine when you turn it to the run position when the cel doesn't illuminate? I feel like your previous problem is somewhat related to this.

Lol yeah, but I'm not entirely convinced it's fixed, we'll see. It hasn't been off-road in a few months, mostly cause the ball joints need changed, and I tried cleaning my electrical connections before when I was having issues. Regardless, it's working, and that's the big picture.

On an older model like above with the EEC-IV system the computer does not control the starter or has nothing to do with it.

Yeah I just realized that. It's a 93. Mine is controlled by the computer.
