I think it's the Fuel Pump?
My truck has been hard to start lately, it will start to start, then die immediately. When it does start, it acts fine. Sometimes it fires right off, sometimes it takes a few tries. Then a few days ago it would just crank, not even try to fire. I would give it a few, then it might start. That only happened three times (in a row), and it has started flawlessly since. Could that be the fuel pump? I couldn't hear it the three times it just cranked, but I can hear it now. Should I be worried? And how can I test it to see if it's something else? (P.S. I've been PB Blasting the bed bolts as a precaution lol)

Re: I think it's the Fuel Pump?
Mine is sitting in the shop hopefully getting timing chains and a fuel pump done, I have a bs warranty that is trying really hard to not pay for it....
Anyway mine started doing mostly what you described, have to crank on it a bit longer to start, never didnt start however but was getting longer to fire. I picked up a fuel pressure gauge and did a test and what I found was while running it held pressure at 65lbs fine but once you turned it off (key still in on position) the needle would drop down to 0.
Also sluggish to get moving if you ever had to get on the gas. After talking to anyone I could most agreed it was pump, more likely the regulator but since Ford was nice enough to make the pump and regulator all in one its hard to say but doesnt matter.
Hope it helps at all but before dropping $300 on a pump maybe get a gauge and test it.
I can update if mine is corrected but looks like wont see it till next week, frustrating since it was dropped off last monday

I feel ya. I got screwed over when i had a shop replace my slave, they had it two weeks and still got it wrong > But I digress. As far as buying the pump, I priced one at Advance Auto Parts and they came up with a $103 pump, which really surprised me.

I hope that will fix it, cause rents due Saturday and I can't afford to pour a ton of cash into it right now. Maybe next check.... If it makes it lol

Re: I think it's the Fuel Pump?
Test for a weak/failed check valve in the fuel pump; it will take < one minute to do this.

It sounds similar what my pump did just before it died, but I would test it to be sure.

You wanted a way to test a fuel pump:
Here is a generic step by step process and helped me with my car:

Yea a pump failing won't throw codes so it takes a bit to narrow it down hope u get it fixed

Re: I think it's the Fuel Pump?
So I decided to take a break and ice my hand, I might have broken something. I digress. The pump they sold me Friday was the wrong pump, so after my late start Saturday I had time to tear it apart, get frustrated, and put it back together. Got the RIGHT pump, came out this morning to finish the job and it's not getting any power. I checked any fuses related to the fuel system and they're all good, and all my connections seem fine. Thus is the part where I heroically punched a light pole and frolicked inside, icing my hand and contemplating the mysteries of life.
Anyone have any ideas?

Re: I think it's the Fuel Pump?
I'm so confused!? Ok, so I called my father up around one, let him know what was going on. He came out, tested pressure, all that jam. He asked if I tried resetting the inertia switch, which I checked before changing the fuel pump and it was fine. We checked again, and it was somehow engaged. We reset it and it started right up, no problems. I'm happy about that but......just to make sure I'm not a complete vegetable here, does removing the fuel pump trip the inertia switch?

From my experience, no. Maybe you punched the truck a little too hard.

XD It's very possible. I try to take out my frustration on my bumper, and I kick that SOB as hard as I can.

Re: I think it's the Fuel Pump?
the inertia switch can fail. if happens again consider replacing. i assume you have replaced the fuel filter lately.

I actually haven't, but it turned out to be the switch. My electrical knowledge and understanding is horrific......
Sorry about the delay, my phone busted and I had to wait for payday.

Have you ever changed your timing belt?
