Default Should I be concerned with this noise?

My truck has 105xxx kilometres on it and whenever I start it and I hold the key on when it's started it makes a noise like the engine reving but more high pitched. It only does it for a second or to but it sounds like it's burning something out. It only happens if I hold the key when starting but to not get it to do it I have to release the key right away when it starts. If someone knows please help, if it helps I can take a video. Thanks

It's because the starter is still engaged. Release the key as soon as it starts. Don't hold it

Yeah, I'm confused. Your description sounds like youre staying on the starter after it's running...?

You've just got to be kidding; are really holding the key in the start position after the engine has started??? ROFL!

All starters that I know of will keep the throw-out bearing engaged with the flywheel after the engine starts if you hold the key in the start postion. And most will make the racket you describe. It's really bad for the starter though. And probably not something the previous owners of your truck caused -
