Ok so to start of the truck (98 ranger 4.0 OHV 5 speed 2wd) broke down 3 or 4 months and we have tried everything to get this thing going and before i spend anymore I want one other opinions. So it started with a slight miss and over the coarse of a few months and got worse and worse until it stopped running. It was destroying fuel pumps once every other week.(everytime I changed one it ran better but still not perfect) so we though it was the heads, we pulled them off and they were cracked. Got some off of another truck. Had a good family member inspect them, (professional) said they were good, put them on, changed all gaskets, still didn't run. Did a valve job and checked the rings, everything was fine. Still doesn't run at all. Its fueling and its firing but has low compression. You can barely make it start. Camshaft position sensor is good. Crank sensor is good. Timing chain is good. Its in time. Our next guess was PCM. Maybe its bad? Truck only has 115xxx. Anyone else ever dealt with this?

Is the compression low on all cylinders? Low compression isn't going to be a sensor problem, but a mechanical one...either with the rings, block, piston, valves, heads, or head gaskets.

Yes. Has low on all cylinders. But we already checked everything. Heads arefine, valves are fine, rings are perfect, pistons fine. Block is fine. When it was still running it ran on one cylinder. Missing on 5

if you were blowing through pumps like that, id start tracing the fuel system... electrical and all...check your lines and stuff for clogs etc.

Fuel pressure at the Schrader valve is fine. Checked all fuel parts front to back. No vaccum leaks. Nothing

It spins over for awhile and you can toy with the throttle and make it run for a few seconds, then it dies off. Doesn't lose fuel. Just doesn't really have enough compression to run

our shop Durango was doing the same thing, some of the plug wires were switched around, and a ******* forgot to tighten the plugs. are all of the plugs snug? try undoing all of the wires and putting them in order again.
