Default Stock gears in 2001?
Hat gearing ratio did 2001 4.0 4x4 come with? Anyone know off the top their head?

2001 edge 4.0 4x4 ext. cab blown heads new engine going in asap ordered k&n intake and performance headers both goin in same time I swap engines. Want all new exhaust and 3 inch body lift on 33's have full aftermarket sound system pioneer 4 way 6x8's in doors two mtx audio shallow mount 12's under rear seats located in Lafayette, LA

Mine was a 2001 xlt 4x4 off road and it had 4.10s with an open 8.8 in the back.

Mine is an edge 4x4 so I'm trying to see the hearing ratio to figure out if it'd be worth doing a 5.0 swap or just put a chip/tuner(whatever) in mine and do a lift kit on 35's with pipes.

They can vary.


You will want to check your specific truck: Rear Axle Codes / Determine Gear Ratio

Yea my 01 came stock with that setup stock. I have a R7 axle code now never goin back to an open diff again lol.

My 2000 XLT 4X4 Off Road has the R7 rear axle code also, 8.8 LS w/4.10's.

All R7's would be the same - as indicated in the 'How-To' I linked too.

In my opinion I would say limited slip. My 06 FX4 is the first truck I've had with a limited slip and compared to an open rear even in the snow going up hills its a hell of a difference.

Thanks everyone I'll have to look next time I go by my truck. Currently parked with a bad motor so doing 5.0 swap research. See if it's better to go 5.0 or stick to 4.0 and just put a chip in.

A "chip" would be a waste of money. Sounds like you are on a search for more power.

My dream is a lifted ranger with loud pipes on at least 33's aiming for 35's. And just be able to go through some mud like crazy. I have to see if a drive train swap is necessary from an explorer but if I have the 8.8 rear already then I'm trying to see if that's fine and if nothing is needed in the front end. So if I can achieve 33's and a 2 inch lift with the 4.0 I'll go that rout. I want my truck back. Heads are bad and god knows what else with the engine. So I'm trying to find a donor 5.0 meanwhile seeing if that's necessary to achieve my goal.
