Default cayalytic converter?

so, i just got done with a head gasket repair, put everything together, put the fluids in and fired it up, to my surprise there is a odd noise coming from the tailpipe almost like it sounds like theres water in it and there is white smoke coming out of the tailpipe, also the engine is idleing a little rough and it feels like it wants to die. Was doing some research and am fairly certain its the catalytic converter, just want to know if anyone else has ran into this problem after a head gasket repair and if you think it could also be something else, or a combo of problems. oh, also want some advice as to how much it should cost to replace the catalytic converter in a shop, i would do it myself but i dont have a welder, thanks.

Cats are like 300, I haven't done one in awhile, so it may not even be that cheap. Also check all your wiring connections again. If you missed one, some of the sensors can make it do this same thing.

What's the mileage on the truck? If the cat is bad, federal EPA mandates an 8yr/80k warranty.

well how much water is coming out of the pipes? cause i get water out of mine too but that is just normal.. as long as its not excessive ur fine.. you would have alot if you havent started it in forever too. but the knocking noise from the exhaust is a sure sign of a broken cat for sure. i remember when it happened on my old dodge ram. the stuff inside jammed sideways and created a ton of backpressure. and also set off my O2 sensors. it was like 100 bucks for a new one and installation too.. but that was a while back and i only had one cat on that truck. but my ford ranger has two cats and i got two high flow catco cats on my truck and it was like 250 for both of them including installation. but if it is your cat and you have alot of backpressure after you replace it be prepared to get all your power back in the engine too

Haha, thanks man, forgot to update this thread, what it was was 2 spark plug wires mixed up, but now I have some engine vibration that I have to deal with, tried cleaning the idle air control didn't really help, guess it could still be the cats but not sure.
