Default Upper Ball Joint assembly

Hi everybody, I bought a 2000 ford ranger xlt 4WD 4.0L engine about a week ago and did some work to dismiss the check engine light in hopes to pass inspection, they failed me for a poor upper ball joint on the passenger side.

I was hoping someone could help me out. Looking behind the wheel, my upper control arm holding the ball joint on the passenger side is a two piece control arm, whereas the control arm on the drivers side is a one piece. Ford can't tell me whether or not the original assembly was two piece control arms on either side, or if they are supposed to be different.

I figured the vehicle should be somewhat symmetrical, but I figure the 4WD and front end transfercase might have something to do with the two sides having different style control arms.

If anyone has an idea and could help me out, it would be greatly appreciated

When I did mine, alldata spit out the instructions for the 4x4 as we'll. I specifically remember noticing how weird it was that the four wheel drive had a two piece on one side and a single piece on the driver.

And you can't buy the inner passenger side, you have to replace the bushings.

What I did was got moog single piece control arms for both sides and got camber bolts for both sides. The moog control arms you can press the ballpoint out without having to replace the whole assembly. Plus they are greaseable.
