Default cam sync replace, degree of difficulty

Hi,
This is my first post here so let me know if I have overlooked this explanation on the forum.
On my 4 liter engine the sync is buried so deep beneath wiring and stuff that I can't even see it, though I think I can feel it. The youtube videos, etc. don't make a big deal about getting this in and out. Would like to know if this is as bad as it looks. Local mechanic wants 2 hours ($200) to stab it. What is your experience?

An update...
I'm glad I didn't try to do the job myself. The local mechanic, who I have considerable respect for, is way past the 2 hour book rate for the job and waiting for the correct synchronizer (there are two shaft diameters available for this engine). Had to take the intake manifold off to get access. Hope it gets done tomorrow because I'm due in L.A. on Tuesday.
