Default rattle during acceleration with low rpm

hello, i have a 2004 edge with the 4.0 auto tranny. i am having a weird rattle ONLY during acceleration while the tranny is in like 3-4+overdrive. it sounds like something is just rattling around and its not very loud. so if i am going 40 and i am going up a hill and give it some gas and the rpm's are at 2000 to 2500 it make the rattle until it downshifts or i let off the gas. any ideas on what it could be?

Are you positive it's only in those gears? Does it sound like it's coming from under the drivers side? I have a similar issue but it happens as I accelerate in any gear, except in Park or Neutral. So pretty much it only happens when I am moving. It started happening after I replaced my Camshaft Position Sensor and Camshaft Syncronizer. As well as after I replaced all the intake gaskets and valve cover gaskets.

I wish I could answer that for you. My buddy told me to check my plugs, but I mean it doesn't run rough, it just has an annoying rattle it never had before.

It's probably the heat shield on the catalytic converter.

Would this be a powertrain warranty item?

Ford has a TsB for the rangers on engine rattle between 2 to 3k rpm under load it's for the timing chain, gears and tensioners not to sure if it's for the 04s though but you could ask them

You are sure it is not spark knock that is happening. Maybe try to change grades of gas and get non ethanol brand of gas.

Look for TsB 02-6-7 gives you what you need to know if your truck falls under TsB

I've had this problem for about 100,000 miles, 168k on the truck now. I am wondering if people think I should get it fixed or just leave it alone. I plan to get another 50-60k before I purchase a new truck.

I seem to notice it most when I need oil change.

Creating a signature that includes details about your truck will enlighten and help anyone reading your posts to be able to help you. I'm not sure exactly what you mean by "this problem" so details again may help. Could be detonation/ping, could be a rattling heat shield in the exhaust system, etc etc.

Cowboy, this is "the problem" I've been talking about. There's no rattle except between 2-3000 RPM when under load.
