Would this cause the backfiring sort of sound when i let off the gas? And the hole is pretty big this will make my truck lose power too right?

Yes it is just like an exhaust leak and you are not getting proper egr flow with it

Re: egr pipe the one that goes from egr to exhaust is cracked
Have you tried JB Weld or other high temp puttys to patch your leak? Can it be welded?

Re: egr pipe the one that goes from egr to exhaust is cracked
My old 94 with a 4.0 never had EGR.........comes to be that it was used in vehicles sold in Kali. So on that note and if I were you, and unless it's easy to fab a replacement, treat yours very nicely until a permanent solution comes up.
I don't know exactly what damage yours has, but I have fixed these by replacing a section of cracked pipe with a section of new pipe, and plumbed it in with a couple of compression fittings. Might be something to consider.

Re: egr pipe the one that goes from egr to exhaust is cracked
Copper pipe or brass tube + brass compression fittings FTW. Be careful, measure and plan all steps before cutting; your current tube is probably pretty scarce in JY's and as NOS item so a mistake/oversight/screwup *could* have unintended, unpleasant consequences.

Re: egr pipe the one that goes from egr to exhaust is cracked
JY = junk yard
NOS = new old stock. NOS is, for example, what becomes of old OEM dealer inventory when they don't want it on their shelves anymore, someone(s) buys it up and remarkets the merchandise.
On Edit: if it were mine you wanna know what I'd do first? I'd try pulling whatever makes that EGR operate, vacuum line and/or wire plug, then I'd drive awhile and see if it trips a CEL and/or sets a code. If it didn't and if emissions were of no concern, I'd give it a permanent EGR "tune up".
