OB2 diagnostic scanner
Has anyone ever used one of the cheap diagnostic scanners you can buy on eBay or Amazon that you can connect to your phone? I have been looking into them and just wondering how well they work. It says they can tell you real time information as well. Anyone have any experience with em and can tell me what they actually do for ranger?

Re: OB2 diagnostic scanner
I use an app called "Torque" on my Ranger and Mustang for codes and other data. You just have to buy the OBD2 bluetooth connector off Amazon. It was like $36 and the app was free.

Re: OB2 diagnostic scanner
Bought the BT version discovered it does not play well with Apple products.
Purchased the Wi-fi version and it works pretty good for me.
I'm using an app called Engine Link with mine, gonna look into this Torque app mentioned above.

I was wondering how the bt versions worked with Apple since I just got an iPhone. But I do have an android tablet so I could use either. You can't really get live data from a wifi one can you?

Re: OB2 diagnostic scanner
The wifi one seems to work quite well with the app i use.
If by live data you mean a refresh rate it's probably 2-3 times a second i would guess.

I guess what I am saying is I would have to be in a wifi area to use it. So I couldn't use it actually driving down the road.

Re: OB2 diagnostic scanner
I really like the features of the torque app, I like being able to read my intake temps on the supercharger

Re: OB2 diagnostic scanner
Well, the Torque ap and the ELM327 readers are linked using Blue tooth. But you don't need internet for them to work, just to get Torque on your phone. On your Android phone.

Re: OB2 diagnostic scanner
"iOBD2" is pretty close to the torque app
