Default Rear wheels locked up!!! Help!!

Okay so I went down my neighbor driveway in 2 wheel drive and got stuck so I put it in 4 high and I got out on to the road or so I though. I turn it back to 2 wheel now on dry road and I go nowhere!! My rear wheels are locked up!! But I can still go in reverse so I go in reverse all the way home and I'm almost home and decide to try going forward and it worked!! But just now I went to drive my truck and in reverse it worked fine and I try to go forward and my rear wheels are stuck again.

So what could it be?? Transfer case? Brakes locked up? Or like a 4 wheel drive sensor?? I'm stumped as to what to even look up so any ideas would be greatly appreciated! And thanks in advanced

When you were stuck if you were running in reverse and hitting the brakes the break adjusters were probably adjusting and are to tight. If they are drum brakes that is. When they are to tight you can usually roll in reverse but they will grab going forward. That is the first thing I would ckeck. Jack up the rear with the truck in nutral and see if you can turn the wheel by hand.

Did you notice any hot metal smells? And did you have the e brake on before all this?
