I have a 2001 XLT 4.0L. It seems to be having the same hard-to-start problem that lots of other owners experience at 100K+ miles. (Mine is hard to start - once started runs OK until you try to push it above 3000RPM and then it sputters & no power).

Before tackling the fuel pump I want to replace the filter. The current filter is FG-1033 (looks like a plastic body). The Ford catalog only shows an FG-1071 (steel body). Was the FG-1033 the correct filter - or did someone replace with the wrong one? If the FG-1071 is the current replacement - will it fit in the existing bracket?

Anyone have any exp replacing FG-1033 with FG-1071?

Not sure about the FG-1033 but I recently put a FG-1071 in my 2001 Edge. Fit just right, but the snap connectors were a little fussy.

A quick google search shows the FG-1033 seems to be an old design and has many acceptable replacements including the FG-1071. See this list: http://www.fuelfilter-crossreference...RAFT/FG%201033
