Exclamation Ticking under acceleration

Hey everyone this is my first post on this amazing site

2002 FX4 in between about 2500 and 3500 rpm in any gear (acceleration) i get a ticking crackling noise from the engine

ford is damn near useless cause 3 times now they have dismissed this as an issue but i fear it might be

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE if you know what is going on or how to make it stop it would be greatly appreciated

Start by digging around the timing chain rattle threads. It's a notorious problem in our year model truck. I'm not sure if it's on FRF or not, but someone had posted a youtube video of 4.0 SOHC TC rattle.

i shouldnt have said ticking...its more of a crackle

it sounds like there is, well at one point someone said carbon build up on the spark plugs but those were changed a while back. its a crackle, not really consistent, but very hard to explain.

I will take a video later today post it on youtube for you guys, and thanks for all the help so far

Try running the engine at night and see if there is an ignition wire leak. Bad insulation on a wire might be causing an arcing problem.
