Default running much too rich.chasing problem all the way to the PCM

hi. i have 94 with 4.0 and 4x4 automatic with 185k.it is running so rich at idle that it almost dies.i've changed the coolant temp sensor, new MAF sensor, tested the idle control valve, tested the throttle pos sensor, tested manifold air temp sensor, checked the fuel pressure regulator(35 psi),and the o2 sensors are good.i am now leaning toward the PCM,but at 200 bucks i cant just ''throw one on'' to see if it works.anyone know if the pcm can be bench tested.anyone have a good suggestion or a solution.trouble codes tell me things like''fuel mixture rich bank 1,bank 2,or misfire plug#5. well no f'n s**t! thanks if anyone can help.BTW my truck is bone stock except the cats have been gone forever.

If you can post the codes I can give you the diagnostics chart for the codes if it would help. I may be a couple of hours because I have to leave and won't be back until after 3.

You need to diagnose the misfire on Cyl #5. That will clear up the rich code I almost guarantee. Probably a wire, bad coil or a plug that's screwed. If it's not firing on that cylinder it means you will be putting to much fuel through the engine, on top of that it will make your PCM try and adjust the fuel mixture in the other cylinders to keep idle stable.

ok, im running again. i took the pmc out.BTW, to all bad guessers in all the forums, and to all the wanna-be mechanics inthe parts stores, the pmc is located outboard and aft of the firewall on the drivers side and against the fender well. only the end of it is visable(like a radio face).goobers all over the country had me looking under the dash, behind kick panels, behind the glovebox, under the seats and anywhere else they could dream up. anyway. . . i found a burnt capcitor on the circuitboard of the pmc.actually a connection had corroded thru.so,another capacitor,a little solder, some strong magnifying eyeglasses, and i was back on the road.thanks for the suggestions and offers.now i can get back to the ''important stuff''... fixing the power steering on my '62 massey ferguson model 65 tractor.the guys at ''yesterdays metal'' will help me with that. see ya!

Massey Ferg!! YEAH!!!

You had had an extreme case, it is not often that you find a PCM that is bad, that sucks, but good to hear you are back on the road.
