Re: Which Oil do you prefer and filter?
You can never go wrong with Motorcraft in a Ford. On my 2.3L I always run Castrol 10w-30High Mileage with a quart of Lucus oil stabilizer with a Wix filter. She runs like a champ

Re: Which Oil do you prefer and filter?
Clean oil is the best brand of oil. Other than that I made the switch to Mobil1 in both rigs recently, figured it can't hurt

Re: Which Oil do you prefer and filter?
I'm a Castrol guy and run synthetic in everything for oil filters im a K&N guy just because ranger filters suck to change but the filter having a nut on the end makes it really easy, something all filters should have imo

I agree. I can't count how many filters I've bent up trying to take them off. Castrol FTW!

I just got tired of pissing with the filter placement after the first time I did it on a truck with an over tightened filter... usually I can just take them off by hand but some days I must over tighten them and gotta use the socket haha and hell yeah Castrol is the shit been running it sense I started driving

Re: Which Oil do you prefer and filter?
I like the Motorcraft 820s filter. There is a wrench that fits it perfectly to make oil changes easy. Motorcraft FL-820S Filter Wrench
Any brand of oil will be fine as long as it meets spec.

Yeah, well I've got a rod, pins and screws in my left forearm, so I got tired of killing myself trying to take the damn thing off by hand. So I just got the filter wrench that looks like a pair of plyers, best investment I've ever made lol
I've always ran Castrol, it's really great oil and not that expensive

Re: Which Oil do you prefer and filter?
Amsoil oil and filters.
Now before any one starts thinking im just an Amsoil brand wagon guy, like mentioned above; clean oil is the best oil. Im not trying to start a big battle over this which is what so many turn into it especially since this is a thread based on what people prefer not necessarily a thread to determine what is the best oil you can possibly buy.
The most important thing to me is to make sure I have good clean oil running at all times and oil that is working best to provide proper levels of iron, aluminum, zinc, phos, tbn, etc etc and maintaining proper viscosity and shearing numbers.
What pisses me off is a lot of big name brands that people love and swear by are selling there "best" synthetic oil as being the best to use, high price tag, etc while actually being some group III hydrocracked bullshit that isn't worth what they are throwing out. (cough cough mobil one) At least if you are going to do that, let the consumer know and lower the price tag to reflect it so people know what they are getting.
Thats why you see Amsoil and some of the other top tier ones giving you 3 different levels of oil to use and price that reflects that.
If someone thinks they don't need top tier synthetics or don't want to waste the money on it then thats fine. But people need to know what they are truely buying and not thinking they are getting great product that is not anything near that so they can make the best decision for themselves.
Being a preferred customer through Amsoil I get the best they offer for ~7 bucks a quart plus providing protection for 15,000-25,000 depending on service type or up to one year whichever is first. So why not use it? Nothing else for cheaper would do near as good for that long and many stuff on the shelves cost a lot more then that and doesn't do as good.
Again im not just a brand guy, if someone else was doing the same thing then id buy them. This is not to say if you buy cheaper stuff that your engine is going to magically blow up or wont do the job, this is just why I prefer Amsoil.
But for 7 bucks a quart and up to 25,000 mile service while having one of if not the best protection you can buy in oil, why wouldn't you. Even if it was more money id still buy it; maintenance on my vehicle isn't where I look to pinch pennies.

Honestly you'd be surprised it may be a "cheap" oil but most of the companies are owned buy someone and use there oild like NAPA there oil they sell with there name is actually Valvoline

I would never suggest anyone jump into extended oci's like that without establishing uoas to ensure everything is optimal to do so. 15 to 25k is a long way to go on any oil. Now as for yearly oci's with most name brand oils off the shelf most people can do it if your only driving 5 to 7k a year. To OP.... todays oils are leaps ans bounds above what thwy were 15 or 20 years ago. Find something with certs to meet the trucks requirements and follow change interval listed in your owners manual and rest easy that most likely it won't die due to oil failure. My old 94 specs six months or 5000 miles and went well over 229000 before I got tboned and totalled. Never burned unusual amounts and no major repairs using almost every shelf name brand available. As for filters though none were better than motorcraft for me I didnt like the startup chatter the others made.
Don't overthink it and follow your owners manual and it will rust away before the oil fails.
