4.0 Idle rpm Normal??
The idle on my truck seems high to me but its new so I dont really know what it should be.
It idles a little over 1000 rpm And when I got it it had a code for IAC which I have now replaced with no effect on engine.
When I unplug the IAC idle drops and almost seems normal does this show something is wrong?
I have sprayed carb cleaner around the vac lines but didnt find anything.
What idle rpm are you 4.0 sohc guys getting?

Re: 4.0 Idle rpm Normal??
What they both said. Also having the a/c on will raise your rpm's up a little. Once you first start your truck after sitting it will race up in rpms and eventually find its way back down to 700 +/- when warm

Re: 4.0 Idle rpm Normal??
if it was bad and you unplugged it, nothing would happen. If its good, the idle should drop or the truck will shut off.

Mine idles high at first start up then slowly hoes down to about 550. Ive cleaned the IAC still same results. Ive cleaned MAF, TB also. I just bought the truck not too long ago. Seems to idle a little rough. What else should I check? Im not a mechanic but if shown/told, i can do it.

Adjust the idle screw to get 750rpm after the engine warms up and it should be fine. ➚

I ended up having code P1506 for IAC, replaced now rpm's down to 550 again. In the mean time found therm housing and water pump were bad, got those replaced too.

Do not do this unless your goal is to mask/hide a problem rather than fix it. That "idle screw" is the default idle setting for when there is a problem with the engine management system, it's there to keep the engine from dying at stop lights, it is NOT the service idle setting. Service idle settings are found on old engines with carbs, FI engines use the IAC solenoid, it's associated circuitry and PCM data to set the correct idle speed for the operating condition. Just fix it right and be done.
