You will never get as many miles as the set of tires on the F350. What is the load range on the tires he is running? Most likely E. They are made out of a hard, heavy compound and made to put up with a lot of weight for towing and hauling.
The 33s you are going to be getting are going to be Load range C. A lot softer of a compound.
Like I said it is your money. We are just giving you our opinions. If I had a dedicated trail rig, I would have a set of swampers on it. There is nothing better on the trail. For a truck that does both on road and offroading, it is not really practical to run something that will wear out so fast.
