I usually eat the PP fees when I sell something.
If it's a small amount like $5.00 or less, sometimes I'll ask if the buyer wouldn't mind sending it as a gift so I don't have to pay $0.50 in fees on that small amount. Same for some more expensive items, but I know most people don't like sending larger amounts as a gift unless they really, REALLY trust the seller.
If I remember correctly, you can send a gift funded from your PP balance & not have to pay any fees, but if you fund the same gift from a credit card, you'll have to pay the fees... at least that's what has happened to me a few times.
Sometimes, I'll send a regular payment for something I've bought & add a little extra to help the seller cover the fees on their end.
