After a couple of years the liner started to deform at certain areas, like over the rails, and I could see where it had rubbed the paint away on the rails a bit. I shudder to think of what the bed looked like, never took the liner out though, so who knows. I know the bastard held water like a cup though. When it would rain and I would accelerate the water would just pour out of the back.
Mine lasted only about 2 days after I bought it and it came out. Took it out and had a little surprise. There was 2 good sized rust holes right in the front of the bed above the frame rail where the bolts go in.
