Unhappy ranger 1996 xlt v6 3.0l stopped firing after high rev

i was driving on my ford the other day (manual) with cruise control engaged, and suddenly a dog came out and i had to push the clutch and breaks, thing is that revs came up and the engine came off.
when i tried to get the answer why the engine didnt run any more, i noticed that the spark plugs where not firing.
i lifted the truck and noticed that the crankshaft position sensor sprocket was broken, so i replaced it... but it still has no spark...
i live really far away from a shop that can provide me with a scanner, my question is, if i can get error pcm codes manually without scanner, or if there is a procedure to check why my truck is still not firing.
thanks in advance!
