Default Looking at hooking up two Auto Meter gauges in my '00 XLT

I've got a pair of Auto Meter Cobalt gauges (temp-electrical & oil pressure-mechanical) that I want to hook up as the factory gauges leave a bit to be desired IMHO. I was wondering if any of you out there have any recommendations on a few things:

A-for those who have done this did you leave the factory gauges working as a 'redundancy' kind of thing?
B-for those that did this where did you screw in your sending units? Or did you just use the factory locations?
C-what paint did you use to match the light grey color of the A-pillar?

I still need to get the two-gauge pod but those look easy enough to get.

Thanks for any ideas/help, folks.

Grateful,

Lee

Sending unit plugs in where factory unit goes for mechanical oil gauge. But you won't be able to use the factory oil gauge. You used to be able to remove a resistor on the back of the instrument panel and swap a mechanical sending unit in place of the factory. In later panels, they removed that resistor and it's all done internally. You'll need an aftermarket oil gauge.

As for the temp gauge, I think it's fine the way it is. It isn't a precise gauge, but it also isn't a dummy gauge (unlike the battery gauge/oil pressure gauge). Or, you can go the route I did and just use a scangauge ii.

Thanks for that info and tips, Kevin! I am going to just place both gauges down where the ashtray would be...they mock up great right there and are out of the way but can be mounted to still face upwards and angled towards the driver. My thanks again for your help.

BTW what is the throttle cable mod?

Grateful,

Lee
