Changing serpentine belt
I need to change both pulleys idler and tensioner as they as squealing and not sure which one so will do both and new belt. My question is when i go to release tension to remove belt do I just put a wrench on tensioner bolt and move clockwise? It is a 2000 3.0 Flex. Thanks for any help

Re: Changing serpentine belt
Joe if I remember correctly on my 2004 3.0 non-flex just a 3/8 socket or breaker bar without any socket goes in the top pulley hole and you push it from drivers side forward make sure it is square in the hole or smashed fingers could result...

I changed mine last weekend. A wrench is key as a socket would not fit with the fan in place. Of course I used a 1/2" drive breaker bar stepped down to 3/8" so a 3/8" ratchet with socket may work.

Re: Changing serpentine belt
You'll need a box-end wrench and a breaker bar/pipe to do it. As mentioned, just push HARD clockwise... you may find that you need to remove the battery, or even work from the underside to get full clearance. Harder still is putting the damn belt back on, a third hand comes in real handy... or the $15 serpentine belt tool from Harbor Freight!

Re: Changing serpentine belt
I'm new to the forum I've been reading all the helpful information. I have the same problem Auto Zone said I need a new water pump, but I have no problem with over heating. I got so sick of the noise I sprayed WD40 and it stop for a few days. Any ideas would be great.

If its a squeak, it could be your camshaft positioning sensor. Common for 3.0s. Also causes a misfire if you don't replace it.

Re: Changing serpentine belt
Thanks. I rebuilt the engine 900 mile ago. I received a code reader for Christmas, the only code that showed up Was P1450 I'm not sure but, i think it is a vapor leak. That could because I couldn't complete y weld on my new Gibson muffler. Is there any kind of test I could do without removing the cam.

Go on Google, then type in your code and it will tell you what it is.
On the 3.0, the sensor is right up on the firewall on the passenger side. Can't remember exactly where though.

It's up front around the fan area.
