Default Fan Revs up on ignition

So our fan revs up when we first start our ranger up. It sounds like we are trying to start a propeller air plane and when we try and drive it feels like we have no power going into the drive train like its all being pulled to the fan. We have had the fan clutch replaced twice. The first time it didn't start back up for a few months. The second time, after we moved to Idaho, it only took two days.
Once the engine gets hot it goes back to normal and the fan clutch only kicks in when the truck is really hot like its supposed to. I am having a hard time believing that I have had three fan clutches in a row (the factory and the two replacements) that were all bad.
Any suggestions on what could be causing the problem?

My '99 3.0 does this daily on the first start of the day and has done this since the first day that I bought it....
Personally, I thought that it was supposed to do it!

This is normal. The clutch is still stiff from the truck being hot when it was shut off previously. It will sound like a jet engine for a few seconds, and a minute or two later it should quiet down a bit. Don't worry about it; they are a bit loud.

The only thing is with ours it did not always do that. It will quit but we have to warm it up for like 5 or 10 minutes so that it doesn't do it. Even after it is warm if I leave the truck running, go into a store, and come back out it will do it again once we pull out.
Any ideas on that?

K so I have heard mixed opinions over putting the 2.3 Ranger's electric fan on the 3.0. Is there anyway of knowing if a generic after market fan would be enough?

Don't bother with the electric fan. No gains will be had, and I'll take a reliable mechanical over an electric any day. A little loud, but dependable. It's not worth the effort to wire in my opinion.

HA! I put a flex fan in my ranger. Thing is loud 100% of the time But the truck dont get hot and I dont have to worry about failing electric motors or clutches.

The stock fan clutch has a temperature based coil. When its hot, it tightens up and there is limited to no slip allowed. The fan thinks the engine is hot and needs to cool it down.

When its cold, the spring loosens, cause much slip in the clutch because it already thinks the motor is cool and does not need cooling.
