I need some advice.
Hey guys, well I have a question. I've got the 3.0 V6 and when I pull any kind of load, (or even without a load some times). Ill be running up a hill an ill hear a sound comin from the engine bay, and the best way I can describe it, is its like a bunch of leaves in the air vents. And I've checked the air vents for leaves an they are clean haha. Anyways some one told me it was the engines roller rockers? I'm not sure. My question is that is there anyway I can fix this? Or is it just cause the engine is under a strain, an there is no way around it. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. O an here is t basically the heaviest thing I pull.

I think it's just the way the engine is.
For towing, use full Syn oil, and take it easy on the gas pedal

Re: I need some advice.
I have the same issue when starting my truck cold and lasts for the first 15 minutes, sounds like leaves behind the left dash or something

I'm not real sure but it sounds just like leaves blowing around in the vents but it comes from the engine. An I checked it today and it was just a hair above half. I was told at one point I may need a heavier oil.

Exactly! But it only does it when it's in a strain hauling something.

Re: I need some advice.
Any chance someone screwed with and removed anything from the air filter assembly, thus making the intake louder than normal?

I'm pretty sure I don't. I filled up my radiator bout a month ago. And the only water I lost was when I pulled the cap off haha.

Re: I need some advice.
Lol, hmm. I wouldn't know really what it could be, I sorta had an idea that maybe your water pump would spit out water going up hills because you'd step on it more. (Meaning the start of the end for your water pump.)

Re: I need some advice.
No, these engines don't have roller rockers. They still have flat hydraulic tappets, but they have roller lifters. (Ford did the half job here).
It could be pinging, or just the lifters making noise. These engines are notorious for pinging under load.

Thank you guys for all the help. Much appreciated.! I'm still not quite sure as to what it is, but I have heard about the ( lifters ) making noise so I'm thinking that's it. But not sure haha. I've gotten 2 different ways as to fix the noise, from burning through a tank of high octain fuel to a heavier weight oil. So I guess ill try those two and see what happens. It will be a little while before I get to it. But I will definitely let y'all know if it does anything.

Re: I need some advice.
I wouldn't go above a 30 weight oil. I run 10w-30 just because I run Rotella T5. 40 weight is a little too heavy for this engine, since it's spec'ed to run 20. Diesel oil also has a lot more zinc in it, so it may help the lifters and cam quiet down a bit.
