Default Bad gas milage. 5th plug fouled with gas

Ill start off that I had a egr to manifold tube leak. I replaced the tube but was running rich I believe with a horrible smell coming out the exhaust as for the leak in the egr tube.. So I replaced the egr tu e and moved on the determine why the truck was running like it was "running rich" . I did a tune up plugs, wires, coil pack, I replaced egr valve, and the gas regulator, aswell as some vacuum lines. I determined the cat converter was plugged and had no power so I replaced the cat converter, and has lots if power now. but my gas milage was still horrible at this time . The same 5th cylinder plug kept fouling out with gas. I got right down to the injectors to see if that was the cause . When I pulled out the 5th cylinders injectors the tip (which is surrounded by plastic ) came off, which I thought was the culprit . I replaced the injector and I'm still getting a fouled up plug in that cylinder! Been up and down on this problem , which did cause internal problems.. Like I know have blue smoke out the tailpipe . At this point I'm just thinking of rebuilding the engine .. I have the time and want the much needed experience .. Just maybe someone gas an idea of what this could be ?

Get a $15 compression gauge at Harbor Freight and do a compression test on cylinder #5. That'll tell you the answer; all you need for proper combustion is fuel, spark, compression. You seem to have the fuel ok since you smell it, and I'm assuming spark is ok as long as your coil pack isn't going south. Last thing is compression. I'm sure that'll tell you your problem, and you may just need a top end rebuild and not the entire engine.

Just for fun you might want to do a compression check on all the cylinders and compare the readings, sounds like #5 might be at or near zero.
See what you find and let us know...
