Clutch Help (Includes Shifting Habits)
Hello. my name is Donald and I was looking for some advice if possible. I am familiar with standard vehicles but this one throws me in a loop because I'm not experienced I suppose. Anyhow, I have a 1992 Ranger 6 Cylinder and it runs and sounds great. I Do notice that it has Gears 1, 2, 3, 4, and D (Reverse too of course). I am wondering, is my truck a 5-Speed, or 4-Speed? Also, what is the D for? It makes a Whirling noise such as when your accelerating, such as when I am going 55 in 4th and I shift to the D, so I do not use it and keep my truck in 4th gear so it is quiet when I am up to the speed I wish, like when I am driving in town or anywhere really.
Second question is, my truck shifts great, but when It comes to downshifting into 2nd, it WILL not do it, only from 4 to 3, then 3 to 1. UNLESS I shift to 1st and then to 2nd. It is strange. Yet, It goes into 2nd just fine when I start driving. Mind you, I am used to more modern vehicles so I am not sure if this has anything to do with the fact or not. Any bit of advice would be great. Thank You
