Default 2004 Ranger 3.0 Edge Problems and Article

Been reading all the articles on the rough idle, codes, flashing check engine. Chasing ghosts and replacing parts.

Finally read an article that nails down my exact problem and the FORD MIL Bulletin.
Basically Ford put defective heads on the years 04, 05, 06

Can anyone vouch for this article? Its very recent 3/19/13!!!

Going to run the compression test tomorrow with a friend. Anyone blowing codes and changing sensors etc etc etc. should read this first.

I have an 05 ranger with the 3.0 vulcan and the exhaust valve seats did fail.kicking codes and cel flashing with rough idle and lack of power.
Bought rebuilt heads from dover head, installed and everything seems good now.

Compression test bad the #4 and #6 cranked up to 150 and leveled at 120
#5 only got as high as 90....

This is the problem. Not spending another dime. Been looking for a new car anyways. Wish I did the compression test first.

Didnt start finding the Head Issues til i started throwing out Ford Ranger recall in google

Also have to start looking into my wifes 2005 Ford Free style 3.0L

This is what happens when you depend on third party parts suppliers.

My 2000 3.0 had the exhaust valves suck up about 1/8" into the head at 157k miles. Happened on cylinders 2 and 3. Misfire codes, and flashing CEL on heavy throttle. Showed zero compression on those cylinders.

I replaced the whole motor.

My 2002 EDGE with just shy of 150K on it is having the same issues. Cylinder misfire codes #4 and #6. Flashing check engine light. Motor still runs fine, just a misfire at idle, and under load sometimes. Replaced coil, plugs, wires, fuel filter, seafoamed the motor, and switched to synthetic motor oil since I've owned it. Once it's paid off (by the end of the year) I may throw a set of reman heads, or a new long block at it. Depending on what kinda deal my work can give me. The benefit of working at a Ford Dealer.

The bluerange
Sorry to hear you're done with the truck.
Bought my heads from dover head for under $400 shipped, 2 days of taking my time with the head swap. I did buy my truck new and had no other issues and have 209+.
