Ima try that. Even though the gas station I go to is one of the bests.

Ive used many different gas stations from here in knox tn up into whitley city ky. Cant put shell or pilot in it due to it lacking alot of power on it. So its more than my fuel i put in.

Can't be just the 3.0 because mine and a lot of others on her do not have that problem. I never use fuel additives and only use 87 octane. No pinging or labor knock ever.

Maybe you should add a can of B-12 and fill it up and see if it helps. Somehow I think your timing is off but I don't know how unless you have a plugwire or 2 misplaced. Try finding a station without ethanol and see if it helps.

Well its got the flex engine meant to run ethanol. So I tried the non-ethanol. Not really any change. Rough idle now though. so timing could be an issue. Idk ill see what happens after the headgasket is replaced

Honestly I have a hard time believeing the head has anything to do with this pinging issue. I've tried different fuels some help it stop and some make it worse. I put 92 octane in it a few times.. And it doesn't ping much at all. Maybe 2 or 3 times throught the use of the full tank. I believe its mainly a fuel related issue. Because if different octanes change the pinging its not the head.

No no no.

The flex fuel is "capable" of running on E85 fuel....all fuels now have a certain percentage of ethanol in it...unless you get the non-oxygenated stuff at certain places.

The engine is not fully meant to run on E85 but it can.
Mine is flex...and i will never run that crap in my engine...it gives u less horspower and less mpgs....

It could still be a heavy carbon build up in the pistons. (reduces effective volume and actually increases compression, thus pinging) I've heard seafoam can help with that but am not recommending it because I've also read some not so good things about it. search for it and do some research.
The camshaft synchro could be on the way out (couldn't tell if you've replaced it yet or not. strongly suggested for any 3.0 over 100k).
Timing chain could be a little stretched.

Yeah, I believe it could still be heavy carbon build-up. Seafoam would be the one to partially eliminate the carbon. And you have read some not so good things about Seafoam? I use seafoam all the time and it works GREAT. Just like the K&N air filters. People say " Oh the oil on the K&N clogged my mass air flow sensor, or K&N made my check engine light come on after 50 miles of having it in.. And then there's those people(INCLUDING ME) that don't have a single problem what so ever with K&N.. Its all just BS. There both great products..

Don't take it personally. Having no personal experience, I offered it as an option, noting that there were conflicting opinions, nothing more.

There's nothing taken personal about it. I said you heard some bad thing about seafoam? Every product has bad comments by people.

Nothing bad about seafoam, just people using it in bad ways. AKA, hydrolocking. *facepalm* As for the K&N filters, overoiling can muck up MAF's, and they don't filter near as well as paper filters. That's the only thing I don't like about them. I will not sacrifice engine wear and filtering capacity for 1/2 a HP. But that's just me.

Show me the evidence of it being better? Besides some made up BS with no evidence..
