Default Stock Thermostat Temp?

Can anyone tell me what the stock thermostat temperature is? Rock Auto is saying 195 but I thought I had heard it was 180. It's a 1994 if it matters. Just looking for some clarification, thanks.

Stock is 195 for emissions. Stick with OE temp.

Go with a 180* t-stat - your engine will run better and will last longer, and I've never heard of anyone, including myself, having trouble passing emissions with a 180* stat.

it's 195. hotter the better it gets moisture of the oil and sucked into the PCV system.

there's a graph around that shows temperature versus cylinder wear, the colder you run the more wear that occurs. but 180 vs 195 isn't that critical based on the chart, and some run 180 degree stats to help if the engine is pinging.

Edit:

Edit:

Most engines run hotter than what the t-stat is rated for, too. temps of 210 with a 195 are pretty normal, especially in traffic

Ended up going with this one. Said it was a Motorcraft OEM replacement and is 190 degrees

Emissions are better with hotter T-stats. Ford tuned the engine that way. And I never said you'd fail with a colder one, just that it wasn't tuned to use it. If you have a tuner to adjust timing for a lower t-stat, then go ahead. Otherwise, you'll never notice a difference in longevity, fuel economy, idle, or performance. And if you go too low, you'll trigger a CEL. The only vehicle of mine to get anything lower than stock is my tuned SVT Focus with high-rise performance cams, high compression pistons, full exhaust and header, and performance race tune. If your engine runs hot with the stock t-stat, you have a bigger problem a colder t-stat won't fix.

OP, you'll be fine with that one. I agree with Psychopete.
