Default Died while driving, now won't start

Drove to work a couple of days ago and it ran and started just fine. about half way home (only about 2-3 miles from my work) it suddenly died. Didn't notice it get bogged down right before or anything, acted almost like i turned the key. Lights were still on but very dim. Pushed it off the road and went to restart it but all i got and still get is a single click. I replaced the battery with a known good and nothing changed. Towed it home and started trying to figure it out.

So far, i haven't notice any loose wires ( granted i could have easily not looked in all the right places). The single click appeared to be coming from the starter, so i took that in to get tested but it tested good. not sure what steps to take next.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My fault:

1995, 3.0 4x4

I will hopefully get a chance to look at it again tomorrow once this rain stops.

then yes it is by the battery on the fender

----------

put a screwdriver in between the 2 exposed bars and if it starts its a bad solanoid. ignition must be on though

Try to push start if its a manual and see if that works, then you'll know its the starter. If not, or its an auto, try to turn the motor will the bottom front pulley (dont know the proper name) to see if it'll rotate. If the motor wont turn over, then its gone. Make sure you do this in neutral w/ e-brake on.

been messing with this for a little bit today. Cleaned all the connection to the battery and the ground that is attached by a stud in the engine block (i believe). Same thing. I bought a new ground wire and ran it to the fender to ground it. nothing changed. The battery when it was tested was dead, so i thought it cut off b/c the alternator was bad and maybe a short somewhere in there. I bypassed the alt. and nothing changed. I tried to jump the solenoid and nothing changed. Still just getting one click. I am about out of ideas.

What is the pulley to turn in order to check if the engine is locked up? Is it the very bottom one with a kind of recessed area where the hex head lies? Also, wouldn't i have some sort of idea the engine was going ( jerk, hesitation, etc.) ? Or could it just quit like someone took the key out?

update:

It was the engine, couldn't turn the crank. I was trying on a perimeter bolt in stead of the center ( i couldn't get a socket on it), so i took the starter back off and tired to manually move the flywheel. It wouldn't budge either.

so, if anyone knows a place to get an engine in/near north georgia...

He said in his last post that his engine is shot. He couldn't crank it from the flywheel, so one of his pistons is literally stuck.

Thanks i missed that. Its a little tough reading my phone and driving lol especially hownearly it was here. But a stuck piston that sucks hella bad. Long blocks are usually fairly cheap if he finds a good online site for rebuilds

Yeah- he could either try and lubricate the piston directly our just buy a used crate motor. 3.0 are fairly cheap like around $800
