Changing plugs right now, was supposed to do it yesterday but....

Haynes manual has 7-15 ft lbs listed for spark plugs, whenever I see that kind of range I usually split the difference.

Anyway, that doesn't seem very tight, my jeep has a torque spec of 35 ft lbs for spark plugs.

Is Haynes correct?

The Maricopa county library has a link to a few auto resources, one is called the Auto Repair Reference Center. They say 11 ft lbs for plugs.

^^ This. I've never bothered to even THINK about the torque recommendation on a spark plug.

I'm sure they publish torque specs for a reason.

1 of the plugs in my truck must have been tightened by a gorilla - I had to use an 18" breaker bar on it. Wish someone would have told him about torque.

Don't tighten them up like a gorilla. Just get it snug and put an extra 1/8th to 1/4 turn on it and you're good.

I didn't tighten them up like that, previous owner did.

When I was young I used to over tighten everything. Still do it if I'm not careful, that is why I always check for specs.

what i was taught was go until it starts to get tight and then go another 1/4 turn
