well i just thought i would let you guys know. i went to advance and got all the parts i need except for the valve body gasket itself (ford place for that). anyways i was wanting to make sure i got all the right parts for my truck before i made the jump to do it. im almost positive that i have a 4r44e transmission right since my truck is a 2000 3.0? Does it matter that its a flex fuel or not for these parts? The reason i ask that is because the motor was swapped for another 3.0 and im not sure if this one thats in it now is a flex fuel or not. i just wasn't sure if the parts would be the same for both??

Re: Transmission problems?
Engine doesn't matter. It should be a 4r44e, but the parts are the same for the shift kit. You can double check the tranny code from the door sticker though, should be a "T". Either way, the parts are identical. I would also pick up an inch-pound torque wrench from Harbor Freight and make sure you torque to the correct specs. These valve bodies are very picky about their bolt torque. I think they're on sale for like $10 right now.
Also, when you get a chance, if you could scan the instructions for the transgo shift kit and upload them on this forum, it would help a lot of people out who want to do this and/or lost their instructions. It is surprisingly hard to find them without purchasing a kit. I was wondering where the heck I put that small aluminum puck for weeks and couldn't find my instructions.

Re: Transmission problems?
That's pretty much exactly what you're going to see when you take it apart. This doesn't cover installing the shift kit, but it's pretty straightforward as well. And if you choose to replace your solenoids, they'll be right there to change. Just don't take all the bolts out at once, and don't let the valve body drop on your head (I'm safely assuming you don't have a nice lift like that guy!)
And don't get confused when you're missing the very last bolt. The filter bolt is actually a valve body bolt too! Tighten them in the correct sequence as well.

Accually i will be using a family members lift lol but thank you very much for taking the time and watching it. since that is a 5 speed auto in the vid and it looks alot like the 4 speed autos there must not be a whole lot of difference in the to huh? but anyways in the vid i was confused about two things. at 11:33 he was talking about some bolt on the side of the valve body but i didn't see him take it out in the beginning what is that? and again at 11:50 what is that cover?

Re: Transmission problems?
The one at 11:33 is one of the valve body bolts too, so he took it out with the rest. It's usually the first I take out after the filter bolt. That holds the detent roller that sits in the gear selector cog, so that when you change from P, R, N, D, 2, 1, etc, you feel that notching in the selector, and it holds it in gear. So don't forget to put that back on at the end, and make sure it's the right way up, otherwise you'll have a gear selector that won't stay put.
The bolts and cover at 11:50 are for the reverse servo motor cover. He took that off at 5:00. Put those in last, and make sure to use the new gasket that came with it. The cover can only go on one way, so you'll be fine.
And yea, the only difference between the two trannies besides a few stronger internal parts is the computer applies the overdrive band to 1st gear to create a false 2nd gear in the 5r55e. And that only happens at full throttle, so most people can't tell it's a 5 speed, it normally skips that gear altogether. As far as appearance, you can't really tell, even from the valve body.

Re: Transmission problems?
ok thanks. on the way home today i noticed another problem between shifts i didn't notice before. i was at a stop sign and when i mashed the gas (not floored but still mashed pretty hard). shifted fine from 1st to 2nd and the when it got high in rpm's and got ready to shift from 2nd to 3rd it reved down a little then back up a little hight then where it was before, then shifted to the next gear. is this a symptom of the valve body too? or am i just getting into a whole new range of problems here?? this tranny is really getting on my nerves... the fluid needs changing pretty bad so what ill probably do is after i change the valve body gasket and the fluid ill wait a few more days and then change it again since just draining and filling doesn't really do it all the first time. do you think fluid could be the problem?

Re: Transmission problems?
Not sure what that could be. It could be an issue, but unless it's common, or interfering with driveability, I wouldn't worry about it. But while you're in there changing/checking the gaskets, adjust your bands. Torque down to 10 ft. lbs. then back off EXACTLY 2 turns and tighten down the nut. They're both on the driver's side of the tranny.
Fluid could be an issue. These trannies are very sensitive to fluid. A flush is always a good idea if it looks bad or stinks. A lot of problems have been corrected or lessened just by a fluid flush.

1)A bad TPS can have symptoms like a transmission issue?
2)have you been checking frequently for codes?
3) have you had any issues with your speedometer or your ABS?

no to all of those questions lol i just took the truck out again and it didn't shift properly like i stated above a few comments ago. hopefully new fluid and the new gasket will do something to it.
oh and btw, next truck...will be a five speed lol

Buy a code reader and check for pending codes.
