Default 3.0 Liter V6 MPG?

Hey I just got a 2001 3.0 and was just wondering what people with this motor are getting for gas mileage? What are you getting, what mods have you done to get that, what gas do you run, and what are good mods/buys to get better mileage. I know there is other threads about MPG but I just wanted to know about the V6 3.0. Thanks.

with my 2003 3.0 I got 18 city and 22 highway stock. After I got my MAC Performance intake and the flowmaster super 44 lightning style exhaust I went to 22 highway and 16 city. About to put in the new 20% UD pullies I got and from what I heard it will help out the highway mpg some. The thing that will recover my city mpg is the SCT X3 with custom tunes that I will eventually get.

It also depends on the gears being run in the rear end. With the XLT I think that you are most likely running 3.73 gears. My Edge has 4.10 gears so city mpg sucks compared to 3.55 and 3.73 gears but has more low end power.

about 20 on the highway and about 17 or so in the city just a ported and polsihed throttle body, stock everything got 4.10 gears and what helps me out in the city is turning my overdrive off when going under 30mph.

Really? Does that prevent the gears from trying to decide to go to the independent OD gears instead of the acceleration gears? Im gonna go try it out.

When I bought it I was getting around 15 city, 18 highway. After a underdrive crank pulley and custom exhaust I'm getting 18 city and 21 highway.

Was the performance increase from the under-drive pulleys very noticeable?

According to dyno charts I've seen it was an 8hp and 11 ft-lb gain. The biggest difference I've noticed is it gets to its peak power at a lower rpm. Plus the fuel mileage increase was nice.

that im not quite sure of my buddy who works at a transmission shop told me that after i had to have my 97 f150s trans rebuilt cause i forgot to turn it back on one day and got on the free way and the next day trans was toast!!! thats when he said if your going under 30mph to just turn off overdrive to make it easier on the trans and help with mpg.

the underdrive pullies only free up power. im glad to see someone who dynoed their truck to see how much power they really give.

Default Re: 3.0 Liter V6 MPG?

I have an '02 edge 3.0L with 91,700 mis. on it. I have fabricated an aftermarket intake using Spectre parts from 'the Zone.' I have also recently had to replace the camshaft synchronizer and synchro sensor. I replaced these with Rich Porter parts that come as a set. For whatever the reason may be, this has freed up some power all the way through the rpm band. I have seen milage combined highway and city as high as 24.9mpg. I generally get 22-23mpg combined. I have no specific reason as to why this may be. My theory is that these parts may just be more in synch with the grand scheme of the engines rpm band, sort of similar to certain motors back in the day were considered 'hot' motors when compared with the exact same motor. Unfortunately, computers have negated this effect in todays engines......Just my two cents....and maybe a plug nickel.
