I hydro locked my motor today like a *******.. pulled the plugs and shot out enough water to fill a bath tub... but actually a lot. I put the plugs back in and got it to turn over and fire but there is a nasty knock on the driver side, pretty sure its a bent rod. Should i replace the motor or rebuild it or what? im a college kid soo i kinda have a tight budget.... Thanks for the help guys

im trying to i just cant seem to find one.. my buddy has a 4.0 out of a 96 explorer auto but i dont think that will match up to my tranny.

what years of motors should i be looking for? and do they have to be paired with a manual tranny?

I found a 1991 4.0l 5speed donnor truck. soo it should have the MDO5-R1 which should be the same as mine right?? and it should swap right in? anyone done this??

Personally, if you just did it and haven't run it much since, I'd rebuild it. These are pretty tough little motors. I'd take off the heads and make sure you didn't crack one from hydrolock, or just do a compression test. If all is good there, just replace the rod. Once you pull the motor it's just a day job and a few bucks in parts. You can check the bearing wear while you're in there too.

I have a buddy trying to find a 3.0 donor motor and it's hard around here, not sure how it is elsewhere.

Just picked up a motor, tranny(with a new clutch), and transfer case for $500. Should have the purple panda back on the road in a few days!!(:
