Replaced Oil pan gasket & RMS...still leaks oil
Hi everyone, first time on the forum and want to say this is awesome and has so much info on here. I have a 98 Ranger 3.0L V6 4x4 automatic with 154,000 miles on it. I just had the oil pan gasket replaced and thought that would have fixed my oil leak but when I got home it was still leaking oil so I took it back and paid to have the Rear Main Seal replaced. We didnt see any oil leaking at all after that but when I drove home and let it sit overnight and there was a few drops of oil on the driveway. Where else could oil be leaking from? When I look under the truck you can see that oil is building up where the transmission mounts to the engine and then drips down. Its not a bad leak anymore but still its a leak. Thanks in advance guys

It could be leftover oil from the repair give it some time and give the seals time to swell..After you give it a week or so put some clean cardboard under it on the floor to see if it is dried up, if not use it to see where the drip is coming from...Good luck with this..

I wouldn't sweat it, check the cardboard and if it is still leaking take it with you and show the service center and let them make it right...Hopefully you took it to a reputable repair place and they are not soaking you for unneeded repairs..Hope you get it resolved..

If its still leaking check the oil pressure switch, its behind the right side head next to the firewall.

Mine had the same issue. I took it to a shop and they thought it was the rear main seal untill the looked into it more and it turned out to be oil pressure sending switch. The leak came from in between the oil pan and the tranny. It looked like the rear main seal.

I think it was around 170. Better than 700-1000 for the rear main seal

Man it must be that time of year for Rangers and rear main seals. I'll take some pics today of where I am finding the oil maybe that will help.

I had a similar leak for a little while and thought it was oil pan gasket or rear main. It turned out to be a loose oil filter or bad filter seal. I was doing an oil change a few weeks ago and the filter was unusually easy to turn/remove and the oil had been leaking down and moving around the back of the oil pan and coming down below the rear main seal area. Since putting the new filter on I haven't observed any leaking anymore.

I'm going to replace the oil pressure switch, pcv valve, and put a new filter on in case there was a bad seal or something.
