Question What kind of fuel mileage do you usually get with the 3.0 liter V6 with 4 wheel drive

I have a 2000 Ranger with the 3.0 V6 with 4WD and an auto transmission. My best fuel mileage was 21mpg on the interstate, and 17 in the city. I've been averageing 15-16 mpg combined Why can't I get that on any other highway(besides the interstate), and what can I do to improve my mileage with out spending a lot of money? I already performed a huge tune-up when I got the truck last year.

You're not gonna get any better than about 20 mpg. I average about 17-19 on mine, and I've got a manual transmission.

In the summer I get around 15 mpgs.

Its just that I share the garage with my brother, so every week we take turns in it. When Im outside I have to start my truck 10 minutes before I leave to warm it up. I don't have limited slip differentials on my truck either. So I have to use 4x4 quite a bit.

With my big tires and my programmer I get an average of 13 in the city..So Bitzy if your truck is all stock, stock tires, u should be getting better than that...time for a tune up..

My dad wont let me take it in for one! I told him that it could use one but he just wont let me take it in.

I am a little short on cash too. A tune up is around $200 dollars, correct?

Well maybe if u take it in to have it done...it will be $200...
U can do it yourself for maybe less than $100.

New spark plugs, maybe new plug wires, new air filter, new fuel filter, clean your maf and iac with the correct cleaner, run some seafoam in the gas to clean the fuel injectors, run some seafoam in your oil for 100 miles then do an oilchange but before the oilchange suck some seafoam in thru the brake bootser vac line to decarbonize the engine..
Your truck will thank u.

I'm only 15 and I wouldnt trust myself doing any of that stuff. I would be too afraid I would break something.

My dad wont help me with any of it either.

However last oil change I did get a new air filter. And when I go into get my next one I will get a radiator flush (if that matters at all).

I've also noticed that I have to push the gas pedal down more If i am going up a hill. Is that because I need a tune up too?
