Default Fuel Filter Symptoms

Hey Everyone....Need advice.

2003 Ranger Edge 3.0 Flex Fuel. 130,000 miles.

I have a rough idle, i have put a new brake bosster, IAC and changed air filter. When i start the car in the morning, i have to put it in assc prime the engine and then start it. If i dont, and start the car...it dies almost instantly. I have to mash the gas pedal and get it going...once its running we are good...

NOW, the check engine light came on and it is hesitant at 70mph on the hwy.I can feel the engine start to sputter.

Do you fellow Ranger lovers think that this is the result of a bad fuel filter? It hasnt been changed in a little over 2 years. Its a auto zone filter....Dont judge me.

I reset the cel . We will see what happens. The back left spark plug had some brown burnt oil looking stuff on it . The tips to plugs were white where the spark plug fires .
( any thoughts ??)

During this process the radiator started to leak . Opinions gladly accepted.

Check the oil to see if there's any water in it

Sounds like it could be the head gasket on that side. Do as DJ said, check the oil dipstick and see if it's milky. Check the radiator coolant to see if it's rusty colored, and see if it bubbles when the truck is running.

I'll check that out shortly . Got new radiator , and I am about to replace other 3 spark plugs.

----------

What are the odds that it could be an o2 sensor ?

Oil looks good . Changed the 3sparks on the drivers side . Seems to be ok for now . I'm going to run up the street and let it get hot and see what happens .

Now that I think about it, the 1000 and up codes are manufacturer specific. The 1131 is a heated O2 sensor malfunction, as we just had to clear this issue up on my bro's 1997 ThunderTurd. The 1131 is a heated O2 sensor malfunction on bank one, which is the passenger side. This indicates a lean condition. Replacing the O2 sensor fixed his problem, but some have gotten this code with vacuum leaks, so do a quick sweep with some carb cleaner to rule this out and check the PCV elbow. But more than likely it is the o2 sensor, upstream (at the manifold before the cat), passenger side. 99% sure that will fix the problem, and more than likely the other one isn't far behind it.

Crap, you guys beat me to it...stupid Mozilla!

Glad it's fixed, you should have a nice good running truck now!
