Default Ecm

I have a 2000 ford ranger 3.0 5 speed and my ecm went, my question is will an ecm out of a 93 ranger work?

And for the record ive searched for 3 days straight and dident come up with anything

You don't need the ecm the standard does not have any electronics on the tranny only for the reverse lights

Also you have to see if the is no difference in the starter some starters have a different teeth on the gear

Where did you come up with this info????? Starter = ECM = ???

We might have a "know it all"noob? ECU very rarely fail. If there is a leak and water gets in that could be an issue?

My guess is he has another thread going maybe with a tranny issue. I also will guess he has a 5 speed... so the Ecu is irrelevant for his issue.

Why doesn't he need an ECM? Just because it has a standard transmission does not mean it doesn't need an ECU/ECM/PCM. Without it the truck won't start or run. My truck is a '99 with a standard and it has an ecu.

Most likely the computer isn't bad. It is probably another problem causing the comunication to be messed up I just fixed one with a bad DPFE sensor but it could be other things. What is the truck doing?

Check if the ECM is protected from rain. The one in my Ranger is directly under a vent where it can get rained on. This caused tranny's to burn out in Windstars in the 90's.
