Default Fuel line connection issues

I have a 1991 Ford Ranger 3.0.

It is in good shape but has fuel issues. So far I have replaced the fuel pump, changed the oil, flushed the radiator, replaced the fuel filter, and replaced the starter.

After replacing all these parts the truck ran good. After letting it sit for about 2 weeks to get the title and insurance straight I went to crank it and it appears the truck isn't getting fuel. The fuel pump is working because I disconnected the fuel filter and fuel is pumping through the line. I can spray starter fluid into the upper manifold and it will fire. I was thinking it might be the fuel injectors are clogged or the line is clogged somewhere in between the fuel filter and the fuel injectors.

My biggest issue is that I am having trouble detaching the fuel lines. Any advice on how to detach the fuel line?

If the fuel injectors are clogged what is the best test to determine if they are and what is the best method to clean them?

i just got a 1999 ranger and am haveing fuel problems as well i did figure out that you need a tool to detach the fuel lines or it will be close to impossible. an for your injectors being clogged it never hurts to get familiar with taking them out, an to clean them with a rag and WD-40 does just fine for me as long as you do not dammage them. hope i was of some help sorry i could not answer your first question.

Would clogged fuel injectors keep the engine from firing? I can get it to run if I spray starter fluid in the manifold.

yes it could stop it from running, it should just run really rough like it is only running on a few cylinders. due to one being low on fuel. you could try the fuel cleaner that you add to your gas tank or 3 fillups of the premium fuel. the test have showed that would also clean you buildup/blockage

Got the fuel lines detached. What a pain! Make sure you get the right tool. I purchased the multi tool with different size openings. I works okay but would recommend a different tool because it takes two people to detach the line. Hoping that cleaning the fuel injectors will fix my problem.

Any ideas if this doesn't work?

Thanks

Removed and cleaned the fuel injectors. I had one that the tip was cracked so I replaced it. Hoping that was the reason why the truck didn't fire. But after putting everything back together the truck still wouldn't fire.

I detached the fuel line running into the fuel filter and tried to cut the ignition on to see if fuel is pumping through the lines. After hitting the ignition a couple times I noticed that no gas is pumping through the line.

So it appears that fuel pump is not working. Which is troubling because I replaced the fuel pump about three weeks ago. But one thing I have noticed for the last couple of weeks is that the battery is draining after I charge it up. I haven't driven but once in last couple weeks because i was getting the insurance straighten out.

Which leads me believe that maybe the fuel pump is burned out because it has been running the entire time that I had installed it and draining the battery.

Anybody got any other ideas??

Checking the fuel pump wednesday.

Just a thought, if the fuel pump is not the problem, as well as the pump in the tank, and verified fuel is coming out of the line at the injectors, the computer might be given some consideration as a long shot since it controls the injectors. Good luck on finding the problem.

you may have broken a fuel line on the sending untin when you installed the new pump. you can unhook the line at the fuel filter and see if you have fuel there if not the problem is between the filter and tank......

Default Good job!

Sorry I cant offer any advice I just wanted to say good luck, and that I thought this thread was very interesting.

WAY bigger job than I would want to take on myself.

Wish you luck in finding the problem. Keep us posted!

I took the fuel line apart from the fuel pump. No fuel is coming through when I try to crank the truck. So it appears that the fuel pump is bad. Trying to figure out why the fuel pump is bad because I replaced it about three weeks ago. Thinking that maybe I have a ground wire loose and it is keeping the pump continuously going and burned out the pump.

Any thoughts?

I took the bed off of the truck because last time I replaced the fuel pump I dropped the tank and that was a pain.

If it stops raining and I can get a minute away from work I am going to check the voltage on the pump.

Any other ideas would be great.
